Recommended Equipment for Basic Podcasting
We like this because: It's an inexpensive, basic dynamic mic with both USB and XLR connectivity for all your podcasting needs. This link has an all-in-one package. You will still need to purchase a pop filter for these mics. These are the mics we use whenever we leave the studio, because they travel well.
We like this because: The Heil PR-40 dynamic mic will dramatically improve the sound quality on your podcast. You will pay considerably more for this mic, but you will notice a difference in the sound. These are the mics we use.
We like this because: The Behringer 1202 Mixer will cover all of your needs. It allows for multiple imputs (i.e., if you have multiple mics or sound input for interviews).
We like this because: It's an inexpensive cable that connects your mixer to your mics. (Note: these come in different lengths based on your studio needs).
Note: the AudioTechnica mics above come per-packaged with XLR cables but the Heil PR40 does not.
Recommended Equipment for Advanced Podcasting
We like this because: Eventually you will want to record into a digital recorder. This Tascam recorder is a great solution. It has stereo microphones built in. It also has two XLR connections for you to plug microphones into the recorder when you are on the road. Lastly, your mixer can plug in directly when you are home in the studio.
Do you prefer one-on-one consulting time with us? We'd love to do that, too.
